Coordinated Coverage for Dover Residents With Both Programs
Some people qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, which New Jersey runs under the name NJ FamilyCare. Juggling both can feel like double the paperwork. A Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) is designed to merge them into one experience.
In New Jersey, these plans are offered by private insurers that contract with both Medicare and the state. They are designed to coordinate benefits so fewer bills reach you and care is easier to arrange.
We can confirm whether you qualify, check the plans we offer against your doctors and medicines, and explain everything in Spanish or English.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
Who Can Join
To enroll in a D-SNP you need Medicare Part A and Part B plus full NJ FamilyCare coverage, and you must live in the plan's service area. Some people with partial help, such as a Medicare Savings Program, may have different options.
If you are not sure what level of NJ FamilyCare you have, your eligibility letter or the county board of social services can tell you. In Morris County that is the Office of Temporary Assistance.
What These Plans Typically Offer
- Medical, hospital and drug benefits under a single membership
- Care coordination, often with a named care manager
- Low or no copays for many services
- Extra benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, transportation or over-the-counter allowances, depending on the plan
Benefits vary by plan and change each year, so we read the details together before you decide. Our dental, vision and hearing page explains common extras.
Long-Term Services and Supports
New Jersey uses a model where many D-SNPs also handle Managed Long Term Services and Supports for members who qualify. That can include help at home, adult day programs or assisted living services.
If a parent needs a home health aide or help with daily activities, ask us how a D-SNP could fit with the services they already receive.
Changing Plans
Dual eligibles get extra opportunities to switch during the year, though the rules shifted in recent years, so we check which options are open to you right now.
